WHY SHOULD I CREATE MY OWN LOGO?
I think all bloggers should create their own logos for the following reasons:
- It’s easy to create a logo. People think you need to have really good graphic design skills and the latest design software. The reality is it’s much easier than you think.
- It takes very little time. Another misconception is you need to spend days designing a logo and perfecting it. This isn’t true, and you can literally create a logo in less than 10 minutes if that’s all the time you have.
- It’s free to create. You don’t have to buy expensive design software, and you don’t have to pay lots of money for someone else to do it.
- You have the control. No awkward back-and-forth between you and a graphic designer you don’t know, asking them to tweak the design until it’s perfect. You’re in charge!
WHAT DO I NEED TO CREATE A LOGO?
You actually need very little to create a logo:
- A laptop or computer to actually create your logo on.
- Good internet connection to be able to properly use free online design software.
- A Canva account to actually logo creator!
WHY SHOULD I USE CANVA TO CREATE A LOGO?
Canva is amazing online design software that’s free and really easy to use.
Even if you’ve never designed something before, Canva is perfect for beginners to design amazing branding material because it’s so easy to use.
They also have lots of templates to chose from to give you inspiration and a great starting point for your designs. No getting stuck staring at a blank screen!
And even though it’s free, Canva has hundreds of high-quality design elements like graphics, illustrations, and fonts. It’s something you wouldn’t expect of free design software and makes logo creator even easier.
HOW TO SIGN UP TO CANVA
Now you know why Canva is so good for a logo creator for free, you need to create an account.
(This is a step by step for signing up to Canva, so if you already have an account just skip this part).
To sign up, click here to be taken to the Canva homepage.
Click “Sign up with email, fill in your details and click “Sign up”.
Click “Blogger” or whatever you feel is most suitable.
As you are a logo creator by yourself, skip inviting team members. You can always invite members at a later date if you change your mind.
Now you’re signed up to Canva. It’s time to start creating your logo for free!
HOW TO LOGO CREATOR FOR FREE USING CANVA
On your Canva login homepage, you will see a few design templates. Click the “+” button on the right hand side.
You will be shown more design templates.
Scroll until you find the “Marketing Materials” section and select “logo”.
A new tab will then open with your blank canvas ready for you to start designing on.
HOW TO USE A PRE-MADE LAYOUT
On the left-hand side in the “Layouts” sections are different templates you can use for your logo creator if you prefer not to start with a blank canvas.
Just click on a layout for it to be added to your Canvas.
Now click on different parts of the image to select and edit them to better suit your logo idea. You can change things such as the font style, size, colour, spacing and more. These options are also all in one place just above your design, making it easy for you to access!
HOW TO CHANGE THE BACKGROUND
You can change the background by selecting the “Background” option on the left hand side, and selecting a colour or pattern.
By clicking the “+ document colour” option, you can pick a specific colour rather than use a suggested one. If you have a specific colour code you have used before for your branding, you can enter this in the colour code box.
HOW TO ADD GRAPHIC ELEMENTS
You can also add graphics like illustrations or shapes to your logo creator for free by clicking on the “elements” section.
When you’ve found what you want to add to your design just click on it, and the graphic will be placed onto your Canvas. You can then move, edit and resize this graphic until you are happy.
HOW TO SAVE YOUR LOGO FOR FREE
As Canva is online, any changes you make will be automatically saved. This means you don’t have to worry about storing all your designs- just log into Canva and they will be there on your login homepage!
HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUR LOGO CREATOR FOR FREE
You will want to download your logo creator to use it.
Once you’ve finished creating your logo, make sure to rename it at the top. Then press the download button, choose what format you want to save your logo as and press download.
Then you are done!
TIP: Whilst Canva is free, you can upgrade to Canva for Work to have even more design functions and graphic elements.
I haven’t done this as I’ve only needed to use the free version, but you might want to upgrade if you’re looking for more design options. For example, you can only download images without a background if you have the upgraded version.
